Polis at a glance

Polis Chrysochous – usually just called Polis – lies in the north-west of Cyprus on the wide Chrysochou Bay and belongs to Paphos district. The small town has a compact centre with a square, cafés and shops for everyday needs. Paphos city centre is around 35 kilometres away across the hills of the Laona plateau.

About 3 kilometres to the west lies Latchi with its small harbour, fish tavernas and boat trips. Nearby are the Baths of Aphrodite, a grotto with a spring linked to the goddess by legend – and the starting point of several hiking trails.

Nature on your doorstep: the Akamas peninsula

West of Latchi begins the Akamas peninsula, one of the island’s best-known natural areas. It is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected sites. Hiking trails, coves with clear water and a largely undeveloped coastline shape the landscape. The Blue Lagoon is well known and can be reached by boat or on dirt tracks.

Living and daily life

Polis lives from visitors in summer and from its residents in winter – when it becomes very quiet. For daily needs there are supermarkets, pharmacies and a health centre; for specialists, larger hospitals and a wider choice of schools you drive to Paphos. A car is essential.

Property market: what buyers look out for

Supply is smaller than in the cities: houses with gardens, villas overlooking the bay and a few complexes. Because the choice is limited, patience pays. For plots outside the town, pay attention to building and land-use rules – stricter rules apply near protected areas – and have the title deed checked.
